GENDER DIVERSE & TRANS SERVICES

After much advocacy work and participation of the trans community in Simcoe Muskoka, the Gilbert Centre is thrilled to announce that the Couchiching Family Health Team is now offering a trans health program. This exciting opportunity has allowed for the Gilbert Centre to explore new support programming in the area of peer support and family & trans youth.

NORTH SIMOCE MUSKOKA TRANS HEALTH SERVICE

North Simcoe Muskoka Trans Health Services is now accepting clients. The Peer Support Navigator and a Nurse Practitioner provide social support and inclusive medical care to help clients identify and achieve their transition goals. Their services include:

  • Hormone Therapy
  • Surgery Planning Visits
  • Community Resource Navigation
  • Social Transition Supports
  • Mental Health Services
  • Comprehensive Health Assessments

GILBERT CENTRE SERVICES

TRANS, FAMILY, AND YOUTH SUPPORT
  • Parents/caregivers can access education and group support about gender and transition-related issues, have a supportive space to explore fears, worries and societal/ cultural/ religious beliefs about gender and sexuality, and learn how to promote youth mental health at home.
  • Youth can access support on issues relevant to their lives and gender identity.
  • Pre and post surgical practical support

TRANS Q* SOCIAL GROUP

A discreet weekly meeting for trans men, trans women, non-binary, gender variant folk, and people who are questioning. This is an adult, 18+ group. Trans Q* Social meetings are peer run and provide an opportunity to hear about people’s lived experience. The atmosphere is casual, conversational, and drop-in is welcome. Discussion topics vary based on the group attendance, and sometime include:

  • Binding
  • Testosterone and Estrogen
  • Resources
  • Transition Information
  • Coming Out
  • Relationships
  • Health Care
  • Sexual Health

The Trans Q* Social Group meets in the Ed Gilbert Room, Unit 345, every Thursday at 7PM-9PM. Check our calendar for exact dates.

This is a community group hosted at the Gilbert Centre and run by dedicated peers who are not staff or volunteers of the Centre.
