LIVING WITH HEPATITIS C

hep c graphic

We offer Hepatitis C (HCV or Hep C) Point-of-Care screening to anyone who feels they may have been exposed to the virus. Remember, a positive reaction to the test means you have been exposed, not that you have it. From there we will support you through the process of getting diagnosed and ultimately treatment if needed.

We provide clients with information on resources in their community and help them connect with the programs and services they need. A Hep C diagnosis can be life altering, but there is a cure. There are NO SYMPTOMS until liver disease reaches advanced stages, so it is crucial that people get treated early before that happens.

PEER SUPPORT

This program offers Peer Support. A Peer Mentor is someone who has had Hep C, been treated, and has been trained to support people who are newly diagnosed or have been living with it long term. Peer mentors help to navigate the system, find community resources and provide emotional support. This can be provided via telephone or face-to-face.

HCV SELF-MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

We also offer a 6-week workshop (2.5 hours per week) for people with Hep C and their support network. This peer led workshop teaches participants to work with their Health Care Team and improve their health. Since one can get re-infected with Hep C after treatment, we also teach people other strategies to cope with mental health challenges, problem solving and decision making.
